Thank You for visiting Advanced Primitive  My name is Al Storm and I launched this website in 2020 in order to discuss ways that we can improve our lives by incorporating the knowledge of our ancestors with the wonders of the modern world.  Topics will include fishing, gardening, healthy lifestyle habits and ways to enjoy the outdoors.

Although the site was launched in 2020, the concepts have been formed over several years.  In 2015 I was approaching my 40th birthday as an unhealthy, unhappy and overweight person.  I wish my story was more exciting but in reality I just stopped exercising and consumed a terrible diet.  Although I enjoyed outdoor activities, I rarely took part in them.  I made excuses for my behavior. I'm guessing many folks are in the same position.  It's not a pleasant way to live life.

As I was getting ready for work one morning, I felt an intense pain in my chest.  I thought I was having a heart attack.  As I was experiencing the incident, I thought of my two kids who were toddlers at the time.  I realized that I did not want to leave them without a father.  As the pain subsided I remember thinking that my kids were too young to remember me.  If I had died I would have been a picture on the wall with stories attached.  They wouldn't have had any first hand memories of me.  This was a terrifying realization.

I went to the doctors and learned that nothing was wrong.  I was unhealthy but had not had a cardiac incident.  I was fortunate and I believe that this was a sign from God that I needed to change my ways.  I'm not a church on Sunday person but I absolutely identify as Christian.  I'm guessing many folks are in similar situations.  I took this sign very seriously and vowed to try to do better every day.

Since the health scare, I've lost over 60 pounds and have completed several marathons.  I have changed my life in many ways.  The improvements have not been linear, I have good days and bad. I hope this site is entertaining and informative.  I hope it's interactive as well, please send me an email at info@advancedprimitive.net with comments, questions and suggestions.
